BOYS' SOCCER South soccer boys sweep Edgewood H-T Report
August 26, 2011, last update: 8/31 @ 12:47 am ELLETTSVILLE — South’s Panthers cruised Thursday, equally distributing their with three in each half in a 6-0 shutout of host Edgewood. The Panthers got a pair of goals from Chris Post and one apiece from Drew Barlow, Jake Kabrick, Riley Bland and Stefan Dalecki. “We played very well,” South coach Kevin Sparks said. “We possessed the ball strongly, moved it all around the field and created a lot of opportunities. We probably could have created more, but seemed to get comfortable with possession. Overall, though, it was a good game for us. We got a lot of guys playing time at the varsity level and saw how easy it is to stay simple and create chances out of possession instead of going crazy and playing direct all the time.” Zack Allam had 10 saves in net for the Mustangs. “It’s hard to compete with the skill and depth of that team,” Edgewood coach Carl Salzmann said. Up to now, the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association has been the place to find boys’ and girls’ soccer rankings for the state of Indiana. But joining the polling fray this year is Hoosierfutbol.com, which has employed a rankings system using the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI). The formula is a linear combination of a team’s winning percentage (25%) with the winning percentages of their opponents (50%) and their opponents’ opponents (25%). The South boys were ranked No. 18 in 2A to begin the year and shouldn’t be hurt by Saturday’s loss to No. 13 Washington under that setup. Copyright: HeraldTimesOnline.com 2011, used by permission |
