INDIANAPOLIS — South got off to a fast start Tuesday, with the first of Chris Post’s two first-half goals coming 15 minutes in, then got into a back-and-forth match before scoring late to earn a 3-3 tie with host Franklin Central.

“Our guys played well,” South coach Kevin Sparks said. “It was a similar story to Saturday’s match at Terre Haute North (a 2-2 tie). We came out playing really hard, got a great goal from Chris, and then kept playing hard and didn’t sit in, but had a couple of costly mistakes.”

It was 2-2 at halftime and South went down 3-2 before Kelly Dunagin equalized. “Kelly got the ball in the middle, got into a tussle with a couple of defenders, found he didn’t have a shot with his left foot, so he put it on his right foot and sent it in off the far post,” Sparks said. “He didn’t give up and pushed through a couple of big guys or he wouldn’t have scored. Then we applied a lot of pressure late and had a chance with about a minute left that required a great save by their keeper.”

South (3-1-2) hosts city rival North at 7 p.m. Thursday.

South (3-1-2) 2 1 — 3

Franklin Central 2 1 — 3

S: Chris Post 2 goals, Kelly Dunigan 1 goal, Billy Head 1 assist, Doug Terrill 2 saves.
